There seems to be no stopping for the Jagna Calamay Makers and Vendors Association (JACAMAVEA) from receiving funding assistance when Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera personally handed over the P221 thousand check through Mayor Exuperio Lloren at the Capt. Goyo Caseñas Hall on Tuesday. It happened a week after Governor Erico Aumentado personally announced to the same group his P700 thousand pledge to help improve Jagna’s original calamay industry. Herrera a staunch advocate of micro-entrepreneurial endeavors and livelihood programs in the province of Bohol said that the amount is intended to help the JACAMAVEA. “You should thank Mayor Eksam Lloren and his First Lady Ms. Nimfa Lloren because they really believe that the Jagna calamay industry needs improvement. Because of that the Provincial Government and my office responded to your need. Right now, I promise in front of you that I will add another P200 thousand in January, 2010,” Herrera said. Mayor Lloren personally thanked Vice Governor Herrera for the immediate reply as he assured the officers and members of JACAMAVEA that the modern equipment and facilities will be in place soon. The Mayor likewise acknowledged the active officers and members who stood by his appeal to undergo series of seminar-workshops needed in order to exhibit a more aggressive action just to improve the centuries-old trade. “I know this is something new to you and even your first time to receive such huge funding from our provincial officials. We are doing this for us to emerge from poverty by building an improved and self-sustaining industry thereby create more employment and contribute meaningfully to our communities,” Mayor Lloren said. Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Provincial Director Mr. Wilson Cenas reminded the group to hold fast in unity so that the spirit of enterprise that has taken many marginalized people from poverty to a life of dignity will be achieved. ![]() MORE SWEET FUNDING: Jagna’s famous original sweet and tasty calamay will soon be improved as the makers and the vendors will also be more empowered through the funding that keeps on pouring in.
