The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Jagna is currently updating its Poverty Database Monitoring System (PDMS) by means of the additional verifiable poverty indicators and mapping of community assets using the ABCD software. The said activity is in pursuant to the Provincial Development Council (PDC) Execom Resolution No. 55-2008 urging all local government units to update respective PDMS to include respected mandated plans. Mayor Exuperio Lloren in response to the resolution issued Executive Order No. 2 series 2009 revising the Poverty Reduction Action Committee (MPRAC) of the LGU as well as the creation of the Technical Working Core Group (TWCG) in order to spearhead the updating process. Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC) Engr. Gerry Araneta who serves as MPRAC focal person deployed a total of forty one enumerators to the thirty three barangays of Jagna for the household surveys and field interviews. Five barangays including Kinagbaan, Laca, Cambugason, Can-ipol and Cabungaan have so far been visited by the enumerators. The project is expected to culminate in the middle part of October this year. Jagna implemented the Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan (LPRAP) in 2005 based on 12 core poverty indicators which included education (school dropouts); health (malnutrition; child mortality; sanitation); unemployment; water source; income, meal and food thresholds; housing; tenure status. Information on access to electricity; disability and illiteracy has been included and some LGU related questionnaires. As one of the three towns piloting antipoverty programs in Bohol, Jagna has been sharing its experiences in its struggles in out-pacing poverty. The move is also keeping in step with a global declaration of making poverty a history and ending the worst forms of human degradation by 2015. The declaration was then translated into Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations at a summit in 2000. |
