Volunteer Marine and Fisheries Researchers and Scientists from the academe and environmental non-government organizations (NGOs) together with the Bohol Foundation for Environmental Restoration, Preservation & Protection, Inc (BFERPI) conducted an Information, Education & Communication (IEC) through lecture series on Marine Bio-Diversity for elementary and high schools in Jagna very recently. The IEC team headed by its Project Leader Dr. Jo Marie Acebes, a kaliwat-Jagnaanon carried out the said activities in Faraon High School (left picture) and in Bunga Mar Elementary School. The lecture focused on encouraging students to become marine protected area (MPA) advocates and be active members of their community in protecting and promoting their local marine sanctuaries. A selected group of elementary pupils were taught how to snorkel (right pictures) along barangay Pangdan MPA for them to appreciate coastal marine life by seeing them with their own eyes under the careful guidance of volunteer marine biologists. The activity was in collaboration with LGU-Jagna, BEMO, BFAR, DEP-Ed Jagna and other NGOs. (photos MPIO & Dr. Jo Acebes) |
