HEALTHY LIFESTYLE FOCUSES JAGNA’S NUTRI MONTH FETE PDF Print E-mail

Jagna’s month long celebration of the yearly nutrition month, focused on healthy lifestyle in consonance to this year’s theme "Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan!" culminated on July 31 at the Jagna gymnasium.

Based on the theme, increase awareness on the role and importance of proper nutrition in the prevention and control of diet-related lifestyle diseases or commonly known as non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among the general public was greatly emphasized.
“As children and mostly adults grow older, they have a greater chance of developing certain diet-related diseases, such as hypertension or high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and/or osteoporosis”. Jagna RHU 1 Officer Dr. Arnold Cagulada explained.
He likewise cautioned the public to remain vigilant against the AN1H1 virus which has become an epidemic in some parts of the country.
Mayor Exuperio Lloren in his message personally acknowledged the cooperation shown by the school administrators, faculty and students with special mention to Calabacita High School students who joined in the said program for the first time despite its geographical distance from the town proper.  
Various month long activities to include the parents class in almost all barangays of Jagna, the usual feeding sessions for children, nutri-quiz bowl and the drawing and slogan making contests were also facilitated in by the local Social Welfare and Development office headed by the officer-in-charge Marcionila Reyes together with the Day Care Workers and the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Ms. Anita Ocmeja, Municipal Planning and Development Officer Engr. Gerry Araneta and Municipal Agriculture Officer Mr. Camilo Rizano.
Winners in the nutrition quiz bowl both in the elementary and high school categories were given recognition during the program.
They were Gerome Okit and Angelika Virador both of Balili Elementary School who were declared 1st and 2nd prize winners. Michael Ryan Ampo of Lonoy Mar Elementary School was 3nd.
In the high school category the Colegio de la Medalla Milagrosa won the 1st prize followed by Faraon National High School as 2nd. Lonoy Heroes Memorial High School was declared 3rd.
In the on the spot drawing contest, a student of Faraon National High School, Rowena Virtudazo was declared the 1st prize winner. Roldan Aseniero of BIT was proclaimed 2nd while a CVI-F student Joseph Dublin was 3rd.
The judges for the slogan contest for high school division declared the entry from Central Visayan Institute-Foundation as the 1st prize winner followed by the work of a student of CMM. Another CVI-F student took the 3rd prize.
For the elementary division, the slogan entries of Canjulao Elementary School got all the three major prizes.
